Join the NOMU mission to Do Better and Be Better and our journey to make our vision and products real! We are a startup on a mission to create a new and better choice for consumers to bring together health and sustainability by leveraging the latest in food and beverage, nutrition and technology.

We are an early-stage startup backed by amazing investors, including a major VC in Japan and a group of extraordinary entrepreneurs from Europe, the US and Asia. As an early startup, our team members get to define what their job titles and the team culture really mean in the context of a rapidly growing organisation with huge potential. You are not just part of building an amazing product; you are part of building an amazing company!

About the Role

As an engineer on our small team, you will be an important member to help bring about our product vision. We are looking for someone who is able to work with the low-code FlutterFlow app builder, extending it with custom Flutter code and, when needed, native integrations. We also have a Supabase backend, which will require configuration and extensions.

You will be working with our lead engineer, designer and directly with our CEO to launch the first version of our product.

Role & Responsbilities - What you will be doing:

Work on the development of a new eco-system

You will be working in the software development team and developing the software components (front end and back end) for our new beverage platform and ecosystem.

The challenges span from the development of apps and mobile integration to the beverage kiosk system as well as IoT integration between the machines. We are looking to build machine learning into our eco-system for highly individualised and health-driven refreshment experiences.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Deeply and proactively collaborate with other departments to ensure cross-functional alignment and achieve overall organisational and project goals.

Freedom and responsibility

As a member of an early startup team, you will have a lot of say in how things will be done and even who to do this with. You will work closely with our founder to understand and translate the vision into a full product and great end-user experience.

This role comes with a lot of freedom in terms of how you do things; ultimately, the goal is to provide an amazing product experience for the end-users. As a small team, we are not looking to micro-manage and control every task, nor do we have extensive policies and guidelines to police. We are endorsing freedom and autonomy but with responsibility and collaboration.

International environment

Although the first year of development and launch will be based in Japan and focus on the Japanese market, the company intends to go global fast. Moreover, our founder and the founding team are international in their background from all around the world. For this reason, we are looking to hire an international team. Much communication will happen in Japanese, but the company’s first language is English.

Despite this, as the original release of this product will happen in Tokyo and Japan for Japanese users, you will be working with and for Japanese end-users to begin with.

Team and method

You will be working with our founder and functional leads as main counterparts. We will have an office in Tokyo and work in a hybrid-environment with the option to work some days from home. How you divide your time will be much of your own responsibility and as the situation requires.

We aim to work in a low-overhead agile environment with high collaboration and communication.

Requirements - What you would need:

You should have worked on teams and products released on iOS and Android, ideally also of web applications. As we are expecting some low-level integration in Android, having some Android experience is a plus.

You should have good experience developing both in Flutter for mobile yourself as well as having designed and worked with backend systems, being comfortable with serverless architectures, CI/CD pipelines and the full development cycle. Build server-side logic and APIs using programming languages (e.g., Node.js, Python, Ruby, Java).

You should have a good understanding of No SQL and SQL databases to design and maintain databases for efficient operations. Implement security measures to protect the data against vulnerabilities and data breaches.

Integrate front-end and back-end components to create seamless, end-to-end solutions. Work with third-party APIs and services to enhance application functionality.

Write unit tests and perform debugging to ensure code quality and reliability. Conduct thorough testing to identify and fix software defects.

Good understadning of cloud platforms and deployment of applications in cloud environments (AWS, GCP) as well as in optimizing application performance, scalability, and responsiveness in the cloud.

Utilize version control systems (e.g., Git) for code collaboration and management.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including designers, product managers, and other developers.

Additional Notes

Although full-stack experience is not a requirement, nor is in-production experience of specifically Flutter apps, both are meritable and will be part of the overall job responsibilities.
